Perfecto’s customers frequently ask a simple question: On what devices and browsers should I be testing my apps and websites? Perfecto’s quarterly Digital Test Coverage Index answers.

As a digital quality market leader with over 1,500 customers, Perfecto is uniquely positioned to give the most accurate answer. The latest edition of our quarterly Digital Test Coverage Index is a culmination of what we’ve learned from our most-valued customers and we’re excited to pass these insights on.

As we’ve done in each of our index reports, we’ve merged our exclusive enterprise data with current market data to provide a benchmark for the devices, operating systems and web browsers to test on in the pursuit of digital excellence.

So what’s new in this Digital Test Coverage Index?

  • We include device indexes for 13 countries (double the amount of last quarter’s report) including Brazil, China and the Netherlands.
  • A global browser/operating system index that DevTest teams in any country can apply to their testing.
  • The market data we use for our list of recommended device/OS combinations is now based on usage rather than sales. “Usage” is a more precise measurement for what devices to test on.
  • 2016 mobile market and web calendars showing what new releases to look out for this year.
  • We’ve changed how we organize our coverage groups for each index. (See below for more information)

A few takeaways from the Digital Test Coverage Index:

Market takeaway: Beta version testing has become critical. iOS 9 and above versions have been released as beta versions to public users as well as developers. Browser beta versions are also key for testing due to silent auto browser updates for Chrome and Firefox.

Regional takeaway: Vendors leading the Chinese market are Xiaomi and Huawei, followed by Samsung. Apple holds 19% market share after showing growth with the iPhone 6 launches.

What we’ve learned from customers: We found that many organizations don’t know when to update test labs with new devices and OSes. We recommend doing so every quarter to maintain optimal test coverage.

As always, the goal with our quarterly Digital Test Coverage Index reports is to help you deliver continuous quality and a winning digital experience. Let us help you plan your test coverage accordingly.
